How to Manage and Organise Tabs in Google Chrome

If you are someone who frequently finds themselves with dozens of tabs open, navigating your browser can quickly become a stressful experience. To combat tab overload, Google Chrome introduced a brilliant feature called Tab Groups. This feature allows you to organise your open tabs into colour-coded, labelled groups, making it much easier to keep track of your active projects and research.

How to Create a New Tab Group

Creating a tab group in Google Chrome is a seamless process. Follow these simple steps to start organising your browsing session:

  1. Open Google Chrome and ensure you have a few tabs open.
  2. Right-click on any tab that you want to include in a group.
  3. Select Add tab to new group from the context menu.
  4. A small configuration menu will appear. Type a name for your group (e.g., “Work”, “Social”, “Research”) and select a vibrant colour to easily identify it.

Once your group is created, you can easily add more tabs to it by clicking and dragging other open tabs directly into the coloured group outline, or by right-clicking a tab and selecting Add tab to group.

How to Manage and Collapse Tab Groups

The true power of Tab Groups lies in their ability to save space on your tab bar. When you are not actively using the tabs within a specific group, you can click on the coloured group label to collapse the entire group into a single, compact button. Click the label again to expand it when you need to access those pages.

If you want to remove a group entirely, simply right-click the group label and select Ungroup to keep the tabs open independently, or Close group to close all the tabs contained within it at once.
