When you turn on your PC and wake it from sleep, Windows 11 displays the Lock Screen, followed by the Login Screen where you enter your PIN or password. By default, right above the password box, Microsoft proudly displays your full name and the complete email address associated with your Microsoft Account.
If you use your laptop in public places like coffee shops, libraries, or co-working spaces, this is a significant privacy leak. Anyone walking past your locked computer can easily read your personal email address. Fortunately, you can force Windows 11 to hide this information, displaying only your first name and profile picture.
How to Hide Your Email Address on the Login Screen
You can disable the display of account details directly from the Windows 11 Settings app.
- Click the Start button and select the Settings gear icon (or press Windows Key + I on your keyboard).
- In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Accounts.
- In the main window, scroll down to the “Account settings” section and click on Sign-in options.
- Scroll down past the various PIN and password options until you find the section labelled Additional settings.
- Look for the toggle switch labelled Show account details such as my email address on the sign-in screen.
- Click the toggle switch to turn it Off.
You can verify the change immediately without restarting your computer. Press Windows Key + L on your keyboard to instantly lock your PC. Click the screen to bring up the password prompt, and you will see that your sensitive email address has been completely removed from the display.
