The standard white mouse pointer in Windows 11 can be difficult to see, especially on high-resolution displays, multi-monitor setups, or for users with visual impairments. Microsoft recognises this and has built excellent accessibility tools into Windows 11 that allow you to completely customise the size, style, and colour of your mouse cursor.
In this guide, we will show you exactly how to change your mouse pointer to make it larger, more vibrant, and much easier to track across your screen.
Accessing the Mouse Pointer Settings
All mouse visibility options are located within the Accessibility section of the modern Windows Settings app.
- Open the Start Menu and click the Settings gear icon, or press Windows Key + I on your keyboard.
- In the left-hand sidebar menu, click on Accessibility.
- In the right-hand pane, under the “Vision” section, click on Mouse pointer and touch.
How to Change the Pointer Style and Colour
At the top of the Mouse pointer settings page, you will see a section labelled Mouse pointer style with four distinct graphical options. Click on any of these boxes to instantly apply the style:
- White (Default): The standard white cursor with a black outline.
- Black: A solid black cursor with a white outline. This provides excellent contrast against white backgrounds like word processors and web pages.
- Inverted: This dynamic cursor changes colour depending on what it is hovering over. If you move it over a white background, it turns black. If you move it over a black background, it turns white, ensuring it is always visible.
- Custom Colour: Click the far-right icon (the lime green pointer). This unlocks a vibrant colour palette. You can select one of the recommended bright colours (like neon green, yellow, or pink) or click Choose another colour to pick a specific shade from a colour wheel.
How to Change the Pointer Size
Directly below the style options, you will find a slider labelled Size. By default, it is set to “1” (the smallest size).
- Click and drag the slider to the right to increase the size of your mouse pointer.
- The pointer will instantly resize as you move the slider, allowing you to preview exactly how large it will be.
- You can scale the pointer all the way up to size 15, which is massively oversized and impossible to lose track of on even the largest monitors.
Note: If you make the pointer very large, the actual “click point” remains at the very tip of the arrow. Keep this in mind when clicking small buttons or checkboxes.
Reverting to Default
If you decide you don’t like the new changes, reverting to the standard Windows experience takes just two clicks. Return to the Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch menu, drag the Size slider back down to 1, and click the first White pointer style box.
