How to Turn Off the Mac Startup Sound

The classic Mac startup chime can be loud if you are in a quiet library or office.

Muting the Startup Chime

  1. Click the Apple logo and go to System Settings.
  2. Click Sound in the left sidebar.
  3. Toggle the switch next to Play sound on startup to disable it.
