How to Add a Watermark in Word

A watermark is a faded image or text that appears behind the main content of your document, often used to indicate “Draft” or “Confidential”.

Adding a Watermark

  1. Go to the Design tab.
  2. Click Watermark on the far right.
  3. Choose one of the built-in options (like “CONFIDENTIAL 1”).
  4. To create your own, click Custom Watermark… and type your desired text or select a picture.
