How to Clear the DNS Cache on a Mac

Flushing your DNS cache can resolve errors when websites change their IP addresses or fail to load.

Flushing DNS

  1. Open the Terminal app from Applications > Utilities.
  2. Type sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder.
  3. Press Enter and type your Mac administrator password.
  4. Your DNS cache is instantly cleared.
