Managing Your Streaming Security
Hulu is one of the most popular streaming platforms in the United States, often bundled alongside Disney Plus and ESPN+. Because these accounts frequently hold active credit card information and are shared among family members, maintaining a strong, unique password is essential for protecting your digital identity and preventing unauthorised users from messing up your watch history.
If you suspect your password has been compromised in a data breach, or if you simply cannot remember what you set it to five years ago, you will need to update your credentials. Because Hulu’s smart TV apps are designed purely for content consumption, you cannot change your account security settings from your television. You must use a web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
This guide covers how to update your password if you know your current one, and how to recover your account if you are locked out entirely.
Method 1: Change Your Password (If You Know It)
If you are already logged in on a computer or your phone’s web browser, updating your password is a quick process.
- Open a web browser (like Chrome, Safari, or Edge) and go to hulu.com.
- If necessary, click Log In in the top-right corner and enter your current email and password.
- Once you are on the main browsing screen, hover your mouse over your Profile name in the top-right corner. (If you are on a mobile browser, tap the menu icon).
- Click on Account from the drop-down menu. You may be prompted to enter your current password again to access this sensitive page.
- Look for the section titled “Your Account.” Locate the Password line.
- Click the Change link next to your hidden password.
- A pop-up window will appear. Enter your Current Password in the top box.
- Enter your New Password in the middle box. Ensure it is a strong phrase you do not use anywhere else.
- Re-enter your new password in the bottom box to confirm it.
- Crucial Step: Ensure you check the box that says “Log me out of other devices.” If you do not check this box, anyone currently watching Hulu on a smart TV or iPad with your old password will remain logged in indefinitely.
- Click Save Changes.
Your password is now updated, and all other devices have been forcefully disconnected.
Method 2: Reset Your Password (If You Are Locked Out)
If you cannot remember your password, you will need to use Hulu’s account recovery tool. You must have access to the email address you used to sign up for the service.
- Go to hulu.com and click the Log In button in the top-right corner.
- Click the link at the bottom of the login box that says Forgot your email or password?.
- Select the I forgot my password option.
- Enter the Email address associated with your Hulu account.
- Click the Send me a reset link button.
- Open your email inbox in a new tab. Look for an email from Hulu with the subject line “Reset your Hulu password.” (If you do not see it within a few minutes, check your Spam or Junk folder).
- Open the email and click the green Reset Password button inside.
- A new webpage will open. Enter your New Password twice.
- Again, check the box to “Log me out of other devices.”
- Click Submit.
Troubleshooting: The “Disney Streaming” Complication
In recent years, The Walt Disney Company (which owns Hulu) has merged the backend login systems for Hulu, Disney Plus, and ESPN+ into a single unified system known as “MyDisney.”
If you subscribe to the Disney Bundle, or if you use the exact same email address for both Hulu and Disney Plus, changing your Hulu password will automatically change your Disney Plus password. They are no longer separate accounts; they are one unified login.
If you attempt to reset your Hulu password and the website unexpectedly redirects you to a “MyDisney” login page, do not panic. This is the correct, official system. Follow the prompts on the MyDisney page to reset the password, and understand that this new password will now apply to all Disney-owned streaming services tied to that email address.
What If I Forget My Email Address?
If you cannot remember which email address you used to create the account, Hulu offers a recovery tool based on your billing information.
- Go back to the “Forgot your email or password?” page.
- Select I forgot my email.
- You will be asked to provide the last four digits of the credit card on file, your billing zip code, and the date you were last billed.
If the information matches, Hulu will reveal the email address associated with the account, allowing you to proceed with the password reset process.
