The Amber Tint
Windows 11 includes a feature called Night Light, designed to reduce eye strain during evening hours by shifting the color temperature of your display. As the sun sets, Windows automatically filters out harsh blue light, replacing it with a warmer, yellowish-amber tint. While this is helpful for casual web browsing before bed, it is disastrous for color accuracy. If you are a photographer editing RAW images late at night, or a graphic designer trying to finalize a brand logo, the Night Light feature will cause you to unknowingly edit your images too cool or too blue, attempting to overcompensate for the artificial yellow tint.
Disabling Night Light
To ensure your monitor displays true, accurate colors regardless of the time of day and stop Windows 11 from automatically adjusting the screen color, you must permanently disable the Night Light scheduling feature.
Press the Windows key, type Settings, and press Enter. In the left-hand navigation pane, select System, and then click on Display on the right. Look for the section labelled “Brightness & color.” You will see a toggle switch for Night light. First, ensure this main toggle is flipped to Off. However, to prevent it from turning back on automatically tomorrow evening, click anywhere on the text “Night light” (not the toggle itself) to open its specific sub-menu. Inside this menu, locate the Schedule night light toggle switch and turn it completely Off. Windows will now respect your hardware color profile permanently.
