The Concentration Disruption Vector
Windows 11 features a highly aggressive notification system. Whether it is an incoming email, a Slack message, or the operating system itself begging you to update an obscure driver, these notifications physically slide onto your screen in the bottom-right corner, accompanied by a jarring chime. If you are presenting your screen during a high-stakes video conference, or if you simply require absolute, unbroken concentration to write a complex document, these sudden visual and auditory interruptions are unacceptable.
How to Turn Off Notification Banners
You must dive into the System settings to forcefully suppress these pop-ups and banish them permanently to the hidden Notification Centre.
1. Open the Start Menu and click the Settings gear icon (or press the Windows Key + I).
2. In the left-hand sidebar, click on System.
3. In the main pane, click on Notifications.
4. The Global Block: To completely kill all notifications from every source instantly, click the master Notifications toggle switch at the absolute top of the screen to the Off position.
5. The Surgical Block: If you still want the notifications to silently collect in your calendar menu but you want to stop the physical pop-up banners from appearing on your screen, leave the master switch On. Scroll down to the list of individual apps (like Mail or Slack). Click on the specific app, and uncheck the box labelled Show notification banners.
If you uncheck the banner option, the app can still silently alert you by playing a sound or adding a tiny red dot to its icon on the taskbar, but it is forbidden from physically rendering a pop-up window over your active workspace.
