Thankfully, Microsoft Edge has a powerful translation engine built directly into the browser that can instantly translate entire web pages automatically.
How to Translate a Web Page
Microsoft Edge is usually smart enough to detect when a webpage is not written in your default system language.
- Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to a foreign language website.
- Look at the right side of the address bar at the top of the screen. You should see a small icon that looks like the letter “a” next to a Chinese character. This is the Translate icon.
- Click the Translate icon. A small dropdown menu will appear.
- Click the blue Translate button.
The entire webpage will instantly refresh, replacing the foreign text with your native language while preserving the website’s original layout and images.
How to Automate the Translation
If you visit French or Japanese websites every day, you can tell Edge to translate them automatically without asking you first.
- Navigate to a website in the language you want to automate.
- Click the Translate icon in the address bar.
- Before you click the Translate button, check the box that says Always translate pages from [Language].
- Now click Translate.
From now on, whenever you visit any website written in that specific language, Microsoft Edge will instantly translate it in the background before the page even finishes loading.
