Historically, word processors were designed around the physical dimensions of a standard A4 or 8.5×11-inch piece of printer paper. Because of this, Google Docs aggressively inserts page breaks, margins, and blank white space to show you exactly where the page will physically cut off. However, if you are simply writing a blog post, a script, or notes that will never be printed on real paper, these page breaks are an annoying visual interruption. Fortunately, Google introduced a feature to remove them entirely.
How to Enable Pageless Mode
Turning on Pageless mode transforms your document into one continuous, infinite scroll of text that perfectly adapts to the size of your monitor.
- Open your document in Google Docs on a desktop web browser.
- In the top toolbar, click on File.
- Scroll down the menu and select Page setup.
- A popup window will appear. At the very top of this window, click on the Pageless tab.
- Click the blue OK button in the bottom right corner.
Instantly, the gray gaps between your pages will vanish. Your text will expand to fill the entire width of your screen, and massive images or wide data tables will no longer be artificially crushed by invisible paper margins. If you ever need to print the document in the future, simply return to the Page Setup menu and switch back to the “Pages” tab.
