How to Disable the Taskbar on Secondary Displays in Windows 11

The Multi-Monitor Clutter

By default, if you plug a second or third monitor into your Windows 11 PC, Microsoft forcefully duplicates the taskbar across every single display. While having the Start button and a massive row of pinned application icons available on every screen might be helpful for some, many power users find it incredibly redundant and visually distracting. If you are using a second monitor purely to display a full-screen video editing timeline, a massive spreadsheet, or a video game, the duplicated taskbar simply wastes valuable vertical screen real estate. You can restrict the taskbar to your primary monitor only.

How to Disable the Taskbar on Secondary Displays

You can isolate the taskbar via the personalization settings.

  1. Right-click anywhere on an empty space on the Taskbar on your primary monitor.
  2. Click on Taskbar settings in the small pop-up menu.
  3. A new Settings window will open. Scroll down and click to expand the section labeled Taskbar behaviors.
  4. Look for the specific checkbox labeled “Show my taskbar on all displays.”
  5. Click the checkbox to completely remove the checkmark.

The Clean Workspace

The change takes effect immediately. The thick bar running across the bottom of your second and third monitors will instantly vanish, allowing your wallpaper (and any maximized applications) to stretch all the way down to the bottom bezel of the physical screen. The taskbar, Start Menu, and system tray will remain securely anchored to your primary monitor only.
