How to Disable the Windows 11 Snap Layouts Pop-up

The Hover Interruption Vector

Windows 11 introduced a highly publicized multitasking feature known as Snap Layouts. By default, whenever you hover your mouse cursor over the maximize button in the top-right corner of any window, a large, graphical panel abruptly drops down, offering various grid formations to arrange your open applications. For power users who already utilize keyboard shortcuts (like Windows Key + Arrows) to manage their windows, or for those who simply rest their mouse near the top of the screen, this constant, delayed pop-up is a severe visual distraction.

How to Disable the Snap Layouts Pop-up

You can instruct Windows 11 to completely suppress this hover menu while retaining your ability to manually drag and snap windows to the edges of your display.

1. Open the Start Menu and click the Settings gear icon (or press the Windows Key + I).
2. In the left-hand sidebar, click on System.
3. Scroll down the main pane and click on Multitasking.
4. Locate the master toggle switch for Snap windows. Do not turn this master switch off, as doing so will destroy all window snapping functionality.
5. Instead, click the small downward-facing arrow on the far right side of the “Snap windows” bar to expand its advanced options.
6. Locate the checkbox labelled Show snap layouts when I hover over a window’s maximize button.
7. Click the checkbox to remove the tick mark.

The operating system will instantly disable the hover trigger. You can now rest your cursor on the maximize button indefinitely, and the intrusive grid panel will never appear.
