The Lock Screen Clutter Vector
The Windows 11 Lock Screen is designed to act as a digital dashboard before you even log into your computer. By default, Microsoft places a massive digital clock directly in the centre of the screen, frequently accompanied by dynamic weather widgets and financial stock updates. For users running minimalist desk setups, or for enterprise machines that act purely as public-facing kiosks, these persistent informational overlays ruin the aesthetic of a clean, custom background image.
How to Disable Lock Screen Widgets
While Microsoft does not allow you to easily remove the clock itself natively, you can completely disable all secondary widgets and statuses, forcing the lock screen to remain as clean as possible.
1. Open the Start Menu and click the Settings gear icon (or press the Windows Key + I).
2. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Personalization.
3. Scroll down the main pane and click on Lock screen.
4. Locate the dropdown menu labelled Lock screen status.
5. Click this menu and select None. This removes the weather, calendar, and mail widgets from the bottom of the screen.
6. Directly below that, locate the checkbox labelled Get fun facts, tips, tricks, and more on your lock screen.
7. Untick this box to prevent Microsoft from overlaying random text prompts over your wallpaper.
Your lock screen will now display only your chosen background image and the primary clock, stripping away all unnecessary Microsoft ecosystem clutter.
