How to Disable the Windows 11 Lock Screen Completely

The Boot Delay Vector

When you power on a Windows 11 machine, it does not immediately present the password prompt. Instead, it boots to a decorative Lock Screen displaying a scenic photograph and the current time. You must manually click the mouse or press a key on the keyboard to dismiss this photograph before the actual login screen slides into view. For users working on traditional desktop computers who just want to turn the machine on and immediately begin typing their password, this mandatory secondary screen is a completely unnecessary delay.

How to Disable the Lock Screen Completely

You must modify the core Windows Registry to forcefully eradicate this decorative screen from the boot sequence.

1. Click the Start Menu (or press the Windows Key).
2. Type regedit in the search bar and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
3. When prompted by User Account Control, click Yes.
4. In the left-hand navigation pane, carefully drill down through the following exact path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

5. Right-click on the Windows folder in the left pane, select New, and then select Key.
6. Name this new key Personalization and press Enter.
7. Click on your newly created Personalization key so it is highlighted. Now, right-click in the empty white space on the right side of the window.
8. Select New, then DWORD (32-bit) Value.
9. Name this new value exactly NoLockScreen and press Enter.
10. Double-click NoLockScreen and change the “Value data” from 0 to 1. Click OK.

Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer. Windows 11 will now entirely skip the scenic photograph and boot directly to the functional password entry screen.
