How to Disable File Explorer Ads (Sync Notifications) in Windows 11

The Corporate Upsell

File Explorer is the most fundamental, heavily used application in the Windows 11 operating system. However, Microsoft occasionally leverages this critical workspace to push corporate advertisements. By default, Windows 11 uses a feature called “Sync Provider Notifications” to inject massive marketing banners directly below the address bar inside File Explorer. These banners aggressively suggest that you purchase a Microsoft 365 subscription or upgrade your OneDrive cloud storage. For a power user attempting to manage local files, injecting advertisements into a core system utility is unacceptable. You must permanently block these banners.

How to Turn Off Sync Provider Notifications

You can permanently strip the marketing injections from File Explorer via the Folder Options.

  1. Click the Start Menu, type File Explorer Options, and press Enter. (Alternatively, open File Explorer, click the three horizontal dots at the top, and select “Options”).
  2. In the new window that appears, click on the View tab at the top.
  3. Scroll down through the “Advanced settings” list.
  4. Locate the checkbox labeled “Show sync provider notifications.”
  5. Uncheck this box to disable the feature.
  6. Click Apply, then click OK.

A Sterile File Manager

The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely sever the internal connection between the File Explorer rendering engine and the Microsoft telemetry servers. If you navigate to your Documents or Pictures folder, the interface will remain completely clean and sterile. You will never again see a subscription advertisement masquerading as a system notification, ensuring a purely functional file management experience.
