How to Change the Mac Address of a Network Interface in Linux

Spoofing or changing your MAC address in Linux is useful for bypassing network restrictions, improving privacy on public Wi-Fi, or troubleshooting network hardware configurations.

Using the ip command

  1. Open your terminal.
  2. Turn off the network interface: sudo ip link set dev eth0 down (replace eth0 with your interface).
  3. Change the MAC address: sudo ip link set dev eth0 address 00:11:22:33:44:55.
  4. Turn the interface back on: sudo ip link set dev eth0 up.
