Why Does Google Maps Ask for Reviews?
If you have Location History enabled on your smartphone, Google Maps constantly tracks the stores, restaurants, and businesses you visit. To crowdsource data, Google periodically sends push notifications asking you to rate and review these locations after you leave.
While this helps build accurate map profiles, these persistent notifications can feel intrusive and annoying, especially if you visit the same local coffee shop every day. Fortunately, you can disable these specific prompts without turning off Location History entirely.
How to Stop Google Maps Review Prompts on Android and iOS
You can turn off these notifications directly within the Google Maps app settings.
- Open the Google Maps application on your smartphone.
- Tap on your Profile picture (or initial) located in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Select Settings from the menu that appears.
- Scroll down the list and tap on Notifications.
- Tap on Your reviews.
- Look for the toggle switch labelled Suggest places to review (or “Rate and review places you’ve been”).
- Toggle the switch to the Off position.
Once disabled, Google Maps will continue to provide navigation and track your timeline (if enabled), but it will no longer send you push notifications pressuring you to leave a public review for the places you visit.
