Google Chrome’s Autofill feature is designed for convenience. When you make a purchase online, Chrome often asks if you want to save your credit card information. If you click yes, the browser securely stores your card number and expiration date, allowing you to breeze through online checkouts in the future without having to dig through your wallet.

However, there are many reasons you might want to remove a saved credit card from your browser. Perhaps the card has expired, you have cancelled the account, or you simply no longer feel comfortable having your financial information stored digitally on a shared family computer or a work laptop.

Removing this data is a quick process, but it requires you to understand whether the card is saved locally on your specific device, or synced globally to your Google Account.

How to Delete a Credit Card from Chrome Settings

If you only want to remove the card from the specific computer you are currently using, you can do so directly within the Chrome settings menu.

1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
2. Click the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner of the window.
3. Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
4. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Autofill and passwords.
5. Click on Payment methods.

You will now see a list of all the credit cards and debit cards saved in the browser.

To delete a card, click the three-dot icon located to the right of the specific card you want to remove, and select Remove from the small pop-up menu. The card will instantly disappear from the list and will no longer auto-populate when you are shopping online.

Note: If you do not see a "Remove" option, but instead see an icon that looks like a small box with an arrow pointing out of it, that means the card is not saved locally in the browser, but is linked directly to your Google Pay account. You must proceed to the next section to remove it.

How to Delete a Credit Card Linked to Google Pay

If you are signed into Chrome with your Google Account and have Sync enabled, your payment methods are often managed through Google Pay rather than the local browser. Deleting the card from Google Pay will remove it from Chrome, as well as your Android phone and any Google subscriptions you might have.

1. Open Chrome and navigate directly to pay.google.com.
2. Sign in with the Google Account that is currently linked to your Chrome browser.
3. Click on the Payment methods tab at the top of the screen (or in the left sidebar, depending on your screen size).
4. You will see large cards displaying your saved payment options. Find the card you wish to delete and click the Remove button located beneath it.
5. A confirmation window will appear warning you that removing the card may affect active subscriptions. Click the blue Remove button to confirm your decision.

How to Stop Chrome from Asking to Save Cards

If you have removed your cards and want to ensure that Chrome never prompts you to save financial information again in the future, you can completely disable the payment autofill feature.

1. Go back to the Chrome Payment settings page (Settings > Autofill and passwords > Payment methods).
2. At the top of the screen, you will see a toggle switch labeled Save and fill payment methods.
3. Click the toggle switch to turn it Off (the switch will turn grey).

From now on, Chrome will act like a blank slate during checkout, and you will need to manually type your credit card information for every purchase, ensuring maximum privacy on a shared computer.
