The Sustained Visibility Vector
By default, iOS aggressively enforces a strict timeout protocol. If you do not touch your iPhone screen for 30 seconds, the operating system will automatically dim the display and then lock the device to conserve battery power and enhance security. While efficient, this is incredibly frustrating if you are attempting to read a complex recipe while cooking, referencing a lengthy digital ticket in a queue, or using the phone as a dedicated stopwatch on your desk.
How to Turn Off Auto-Lock
You must dive into the Display settings to override the power management kernel and force the screen to remain illuminated indefinitely.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on Display & Brightness.
3. Scroll down the main pane until you locate the option labelled Auto-Lock. (It usually displays the current timeout period, like “30 Seconds,” next to it).
4. Tap on Auto-Lock.
5. You will see a list of time increments ranging from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. At the absolute bottom of this list, tap Never.
6. A blue checkmark will appear next to “Never.”
Crucial Warning: By selecting “Never,” the iPhone will quite literally remain awake and unlocked until the battery completely dies. If you place the phone in your pocket without manually pressing the physical side button to lock it, it will stay on, causing massive battery drain and potentially initiating accidental phone calls. Use this setting selectively.
