Over time, your iPhone remembers every Wi-Fi network you have ever connected to—from your home router to random coffee shop hotspots. If your phone keeps trying to connect to a slow, public network you no longer want to use, or if you recently changed your home Wi-Fi password and your phone is stuck trying to use the old one, you need to “forget” the network.
How to Forget a Saved Wi-Fi Network
Forgetting a network deletes the saved password and stops your iPhone from automatically connecting to it in the future.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap on Wi-Fi.
- Ensure your Wi-Fi is turned on. Look through the list of networks to find the one you want to delete.
- Tap the small blue “i” icon (information icon) to the far right of the network’s name.
- At the very top of the next screen, tap Forget This Network.
- A popup will appear asking you to confirm. Tap Forget.
The network is now deleted. If you ever want to connect to it again, you will have to select it manually and re-enter the password.
What to Do If You Can’t Delete a Network
If you tap the blue “i” icon but do not see the “Forget This Network” option, the network was likely installed by your workplace or school via a configuration profile. You cannot forget these networks normally.
- To remove it, you must delete the profile itself. Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Select the profile associated with your work or school and tap Remove Profile. Note that this may also remove your access to work email or internal apps.
