How to Automatically Send a Copy of a Google Form Response to the Submitter

When you use Google Forms to collect event registrations, job applications, or IT support tickets, it is essential that the person submitting the form receives a confirmation email containing a record of what they just submitted. By default, Google Forms simply shows a generic “Your response has been recorded” webpage. However, you can easily configure the form to automatically email a complete PDF receipt to the submitter.

How to Enable Response Receipts

You can turn this feature on natively within the Google Forms settings menu.

  1. Open your specific form in Google Forms (in editing mode).
  2. At the very top of the page, click on the Settings tab.
  3. Look for the section labelled Responses and click the small downward arrow next to it to expand the menu.
  4. Find the setting labelled Collect email addresses and change it from “Do not collect” to Responder input (or Verified). Note: The form must collect their email address, otherwise it won’t know where to send the receipt.
  5. Once email collection is enabled, a new option will appear directly below it called Send responders a copy of their response.
  6. Change the dropdown menu from “Off” to Always.

Now, whenever someone fills out your form and clicks Submit, Google will instantly dispatch an automated email to their inbox containing a beautifully formatted table showing exactly how they answered every single question.
