The Annoyance of Tracking Prompts
Apple fundamentally changed digital advertising when it introduced “App Tracking Transparency” in iOS. This privacy feature forces application developers to explicitly ask for your permission before they can track your activity across other apps and websites using your unique advertising identifier. As a result, whenever you download a new game, social media app, or shopping utility, you are immediately greeted by a massive pop-up asking, “Allow [App] to track your activity?” If you are a privacy-conscious user, you likely hit “Ask App Not to Track” every single time. Instead of dismissing these prompts manually on an app-by-app basis, you can configure your iPhone to automatically deny all tracking requests globally.
How to Disable App Tracking Requests
You can change the default behavior of these prompts in the main privacy settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down the main list and tap on Privacy & Security.
- Near the very top of the screen, tap on Tracking.
- Look for the master toggle switch labeled Allow Apps to Request to Track.
- Tap the switch to turn it Off (the green background will disappear).
What Actually Happens?
A prompt will appear asking what you want to do with apps that you have previously granted permission to. Select Ask Apps to Stop Tracking to revoke any existing permissions globally.
By turning this master switch off, two things happen instantly:
- You will never see an “Allow to track” pop-up again.
- Your iPhone will automatically and silently send a “Do Not Track” signal to every single app you install in the future. The apps will behave exactly as if you had manually tapped the “Ask App Not to Track” button on the pop-up, ensuring your cross-app data remains completely private without the daily interruptions.
