The Robocall Vector
The proliferation of automated telemarketing systems and scam calls has rendered the traditional telephone network highly chaotic. If your phone number is listed in any public database, you will inevitably receive a constant barrage of unsolicited calls from unknown numbers. These calls disrupt meetings, drain your battery, and represent a significant security risk if you accidentally engage with a malicious actor. Rather than manually blocking hundreds of individual numbers, you must implement a blanket filter.
How to Block Unknown Callers
Apple includes a powerful feature in iOS designed to automatically intercept and silence any incoming call from a number that does not exist in your trusted contacts list.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down the main list until you locate the Phone app settings and tap it.
3. Scroll down this menu until you locate the section titled Silence Unknown Callers.
4. Tap on it to open the configuration screen.
5. Tap the master toggle switch labelled Silence Unknown Callers to move it to the On position (it will turn green).
From this moment forward, if a telemarketer or an unrecognized number calls you, your iPhone will not ring, vibrate, or illuminate the screen. The call is instantly and silently routed directly to your voicemail. The number will still appear in your “Recents” list, allowing you to review it later and call back if it happened to be a legitimate, unexpected contact.
