How to Disable the Zoom Accessibility Feature on Apple Watch

The Massive Icons

The Apple Watch features an accessibility setting called “Zoom.” When this is enabled, double-tapping the tiny screen with two fingers simultaneously will violently zoom the user interface in by up to 15 times its normal size, turning a single app icon into a massive, screen-filling blur. While this is an essential tool for visually impaired users, it is incredibly easy to trigger by accident. If you are wiping water off the screen or accidentally brush the watch face against your hand, the watch will often zoom in unexpectedly, leaving you trapped in a massive, unreadable interface without knowing how to zoom back out. You must explicitly disable this feature.

How to Turn Off the Zoom Feature

You can completely disable the magnifying engine via the watch settings.

  1. Open the Settings app directly on your Apple Watch (the grey gear icon).
  2. Scroll down the main list and tap on Accessibility.
  3. Look at the very top of the Accessibility menu and tap on Zoom.
  4. You will see a master toggle switch labeled Zoom.
  5. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

Restoring the Interface

The change takes effect instantly. If your watch was currently stuck zoomed in, turning this toggle off will instantly snap the interface back to its normal, 100% scale. You can now tap, double-tap, and wipe the screen as aggressively as you want; the operating system will never again attempt to magnify the display.
