The Master Kill Switch
The iPhone uses a physical internal motor called the Taptic Engine to generate vibrations for phone calls, text messages, and system alerts. However, the operating system scatters the vibration controls across dozens of different menus—one toggle for ringtones, one for silent mode, and separate toggles inside individual apps. If you want your phone to be absolutely still, hunting down every single vibration setting is exhausting. Fortunately, Apple includes a deeply hidden Accessibility master switch that instantly cuts all power to the vibration motor globally.
How to Turn Off All Vibration
You can permanently paralyze the physical Taptic Engine via the Accessibility settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.
- Under the “Physical and Motor” section, tap on Touch.
- Scroll down to the middle of the screen until you find the toggle labeled Vibration.
- Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).
Absolute Stillness
The change takes effect instantly. Warning: This is a global hardware override. It completely disables all vibrations on your iPhone, including emergency alerts like earthquake warnings or severe weather notifications. Your phone will now rely entirely on the visual screen and the audio speaker to notify you. Whether your phone is set to Ring or Silent, the physical chassis will remain absolutely motionless, guaranteeing a perfectly still device regardless of what apps you use.
