How to Disable System Haptics on iPhone

The Constant Buzzing

Modern iPhones are equipped with the “Taptic Engine,” a highly precise vibration motor. Apple utilizes this motor to generate “System Haptics.” When this feature is enabled, the iPhone constantly fires tiny micro-vibrations into your hand as you interact with the operating system. You will feel a small click when you pull down the notification center, when you scroll to the bottom of a webpage, or when you toggle a switch in the Settings app. While this provides excellent physical feedback, it consumes battery power. If you find the constant buzzing annoying or simply want to maximize your daily battery life, you can disable these system-wide vibrations entirely.

How to Turn Off System Haptics

You can completely sever the operating system’s connection to the vibration motor via the Sound settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Sounds & Haptics.
  3. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page.
  4. Look for the master toggle switch labeled System Haptics.
  5. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

A Silent Interface

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will immediately stop generating physical feedback for standard operating system interactions. You can pull down menus, spin dials, and toggle switches, and the phone will remain completely smooth and silent in your hand. Please note that this only disables UI feedback; your phone will still vibrate normally when you receive a phone call or a text message (if you have ring vibrations enabled).
