How to Disable “Speak Time” (Mickey Mouse Voice) on Apple Watch

The Accidental Broadcast

The Apple Watch includes a novelty accessibility feature known as “Speak Time.” By default, if you are using specific watch faces (such as Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse) and you tap the center of the display with two fingers, the character will loudly announce the current time using character-specific voice acting. While amusing, the capacitive touch sensor is highly sensitive. If you cross your arms or accidentally bump the screen against your clothing during a quiet meeting, the watch will unexpectedly shout the time across the room. You must completely disable this audio trigger.

How to Turn Off Speak Time

You can permanently paralyze the vocal announcement gesture via the Clock settings.

  1. Open the Settings app directly on your Apple Watch (the grey gear icon).
  2. Scroll down the main list and tap on Clock.
  3. Scroll down to the section labeled “Speak Time.”
  4. Locate the master toggle switch labeled Speak Time.
  5. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

Guaranteed Silence

The change is instantaneous. The Apple Watch will completely sever the internal bridge connecting the two-finger capacitive touch gesture to the audio daemon. You can now aggressively tap the Mickey Mouse watch face, or accidentally press the screen against your jacket, and the operating system will absolutely refuse to trigger the voice file. The watch face will continue to function visually, but the device is now guaranteed to remain completely silent regardless of physical screen interactions.
