The Constant Interruption
There is nothing more frustrating than being fully immersed in a mobile game or a productivity app on your iPhone, only to have the entire screen hijacked by a pop-up window begging you to “Rate this app in the App Store!” Developers use these prompts aggressively because positive reviews drive their software up the sales charts. While you can tap “Not Now” to dismiss the prompt, doing this constantly across dozens of installed apps is incredibly annoying. Fortunately, Apple provides a hidden master switch that allows you to permanently ban all applications from ever asking you for a review again.
How to Turn Off In-App Ratings & Reviews
You can enforce this global ban directly from the App Store settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down the main list (past General and Privacy) until you find the section for Apple’s built-in apps.
- Tap on App Store.
- Scroll down the page to the section labeled “Review & Rating.”
- You will see a toggle switch labeled In-App Ratings & Reviews.
- Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).
The Silent Experience
The change is global and takes effect immediately. From this moment forward, iOS will silently block the API call whenever an application attempts to trigger a review pop-up. You can still manually open the App Store and leave a review for a developer if you truly love their software, but the applications themselves are now explicitly forbidden from interrupting your workflow to ask for one.
