Why Disable the Microsoft Edge News Feed?
By default, whenever you open a new tab in Microsoft Edge, you are presented with a search bar, a row of frequently visited websites, and an endless scrolling feed of news articles, weather forecasts, and sponsored content titled “Suggested for You” (powered by MSN). While some users enjoy the quick news updates, the feed is notoriously distracting, often filled with clickbait or irrelevant tabloid stories that can break your focus when you simply intended to navigate to a specific website. Additionally, this feed consumes system memory and network bandwidth to load images and auto-play videos in the background. If you prefer a clean, fast, and minimalist browsing experience, you should completely disable the content feed.
How to Turn Off the “Suggested for You” Feed
You can customize the layout of the New Tab page directly from the page itself using the built-in layout settings.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the “+” icon at the top to open a New Tab.
- In the top-right corner of the new tab page (just below the address bar, not the main browser menu), click the Settings gear icon (Page settings).
- A dropdown menu will appear showing the current layout, which is likely set to “Informational” or “Inspirational.”
- Scroll down the menu to locate the Content dropdown box.
- Click on the Content dropdown.
- Select Content off from the list.
Further Customizing a Clean Layout
Selecting “Content off” immediately removes the MSN news feed, leaving only the search bar and your quick links. To make the page even cleaner:
- Still within that same Page settings gear menu, look for the Quick links toggle and turn it Off to remove the row of frequently visited sites.
- If the daily background image is distracting, look for the Background section and turn it Off.
Your New Tab page will now be completely blank—a fast-loading, distraction-free environment that saves memory and helps you stay focused on your actual tasks.
