How to Disable Contact Poster (Name & Photo Sharing) on iPhone

The Automated Broadcast

Apple includes a feature in iOS called “Contact Poster” (or “Name & Photo Sharing”). By default, the iPhone prompts you to create a customized profile picture and name format. Whenever you send an iMessage or place a phone call to someone else with an iPhone, your device automatically transmits this full-screen Contact Poster to their screen, overwriting whatever contact photo they may have locally assigned to you. For professionals who prefer to maintain strict anonymity or do not want their personalized avatar broadcasted during business calls, this automated transmission must be destroyed.

How to Turn Off Name & Photo Sharing

You can permanently sever the background broadcasting daemon via the Messages settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Messages.
  3. Tap on Share Name and Photo.
  4. Locate the master toggle switch labeled Name and Photo Sharing.
  5. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

Absolute Contact Privacy

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely terminate the background daemon responsible for packaging and transmitting your Contact Poster metadata. When you place a phone call or send an iMessage, the operating system is now absolutely barred from transmitting your custom avatar or chosen name format. The recipient’s phone will strictly rely on whatever localized contact card they have manually created for you on their own device, guaranteeing absolute control over your digital footprint.
