How to Block a Phone Number on iPhone

The Harassment Vector

Whether it is a relentless telemarketer, an aggressive debt collector, or an unwanted personal contact, your smartphone is frequently the primary vector for sustained harassment. Because the iPhone is a persistent, always-on communication device, allowing unwanted individuals to repeatedly trigger your ringer or send vibrating text messages is highly disruptive. You must utilize iOS’s system-level blocking capabilities to build a digital firewall around your phone number.

How to Block a Phone Number

Apple integrates the blocking mechanism directly into the core Phone and Contacts applications, allowing you to instantly sever all incoming communication from a specific source.

1. Open the green Phone app on your iPhone.
2. If the person recently called you, tap the Recents tab at the bottom of the screen.
3. Locate the offending phone number in the list. Do not tap the number itself (that will call them back). Instead, tap the small blue info (i) button located on the far right edge of that specific row.
4. You are now looking at the contact card for that number. Scroll down to the absolute bottom of this screen.
5. Tap the option written in red text: Block this Caller.
6. A confirmation dialogue will slide up from the bottom of the screen, warning you that you will not receive phone calls, messages, or FaceTime requests from people on the block list. Tap Block Contact to finalize the action.

The blockade is instantaneous. If the blocked individual attempts to call you, their phone will ring once silently on their end before being forcefully routed directly to your voicemail. If they attempt to send an iMessage, it will appear to them as “Delivered,” but the message will simply vanish into the ether, never reaching your device.
