The Communication Severance Vector
If you are being subjected to relentless telemarketing calls, SMS spam, or harassment from a specific individual, simply ignoring the incoming alerts is insufficient. The constant ringing still interrupts your focus, drains your battery, and clutters your notification center. You must instruct the iPhone’s core telephony framework to actively intercept and instantly reject any incoming communication attempt from that specific cryptographic identifier (their phone number) before it even reaches your screen.
How to Block a Number
Apple integrated the master contact blocklist directly into the native Phone and Messages applications, allowing for immediate retaliation against spam.
1. Blocking from the Recent Calls List (The Fastest Method):
* Open the green Phone app.
* Tap on the Recents tab at the bottom.
* Locate the spam number in the list. Crucially: Do not tap the number itself (this will call them back). Instead, tap the small blue “i” (Info) icon located to the extreme right of the number.
* The contact card will open. Scroll to the absolute bottom of this page.
* Tap the red text labelled Block this Caller.
* A confirmation menu will pop up. Tap Block Contact.
2. Blocking from a Text Message:
* Open the Messages app.
* Tap on the spam message thread.
* Tap on the profile icon/phone number at the very top of the screen.
* Tap the Info button.
* Scroll to the bottom and tap Block this Caller.
The Operational Reality: The blockade is absolute. If that specific number attempts to call you, they will hear a single ring before being instantly routed to voicemail (which they can still leave, but your phone will not ring). If they send a text message, it will simply vanish into the ether; it will never appear on your device.
