How to Completely Disable ‘Bedtime Mode’ System-Wide on Android

Bedtime Mode is a Digital Wellbeing feature built into modern Android smartphones designed to help users disconnect before sleep. When activated (either manually or via a schedule), it aggressively alters the device’s behaviour: the screen turns entirely grayscale (black and white), Do Not Disturb is activated to silence all notifications, and background processes are often throttled. While intended to promote healthy sleep habits, it can be incredibly frustrating if you frequently work late shifts or simply do not want your operating system artificially limiting your phone’s functionality based on the time of day.

This guide explains how to completely disable Bedtime Mode system-wide on your Android smartphone to ensure your screen remains in full colour and your notifications are never silenced automatically.

Disable Bedtime Mode via Digital Wellbeing

Because Bedtime Mode is a subset of Google’s health and usage tracking suite, it must be disabled from within the Digital Wellbeing dashboard.

  1. Open the main Settings app on your Android smartphone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Digital Wellbeing & parental controls.
  3. Under the “Ways to disconnect” section, tap on Bedtime mode.
  4. If Bedtime mode is currently active, tap the Turn off for now button.
  5. Next, to prevent it from ever turning on automatically, tap on Bedtime routine (or “Schedule”).
  6. In the menu that appears, select the None (or “Turn on manually”) radio button.
  7. If you see any options like “Turn on while charging at bedtime,” ensure those toggles are set to the Off (grey) position.

Verify the Unrestricted Interface

Disabling the routine instantly stops the background daemon from monitoring the clock or your charging habits.

To verify the restriction is active, look at your screen. If it was previously grayscale, it will instantly snap back to full, vibrant colour. Furthermore, check your Quick Settings panel (swipe down from the top of the screen). Ensure the “Do Not Disturb” icon is not active. Your smartphone is now permanently unlocked from the Digital Wellbeing sleep schedule, giving you absolute, 24/7 control over your device’s display and notification behaviour.
