Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is a standard used by modern cellular networks that routes your voice calls over the high-speed 4G LTE data network rather than the older, legacy 2G or 3G voice networks. This results in significantly higher audio quality (often branded as “HD Voice”) and allows you to browse the internet at high speeds while simultaneously on a phone call. However, in rural areas with patchy or unstable 4G coverage, leaving VoLTE enabled can actually result in dropped calls or robotic, distorted audio as the phone desperately clings to a weak data signal instead of dropping back to a more stable, low-frequency 3G voice tower.

Disable VoLTE via Network Settings
The ability to toggle VoLTE is heavily dependent on your specific mobile carrier; some carriers completely hide this option to force modernization, but on most unlocked Android devices, it remains accessible.
- Open the main Settings app on your Android smartphone.
- Tap on Network & internet (or “Connections” on Samsung devices).
- Tap on Mobile network (or “SIMs”).
- If you have a dual-SIM phone, select the specific SIM card you use for voice calls.
