How to Remove a Third-Party App’s Access to Your Google Account

Over the years, you have likely used your Google Account to sign in to hundreds of third-party websites, productivity apps, and mobile games. While “Sign in with Google” is incredibly convenient, it often grants these third-party services access to your personal data, such as your email address, profile information, and sometimes even your Google Drive files or calendar.

For optimal security, it is highly recommended that you routinely audit these connections and remove access for apps or services you no longer use or trust.

Why You Should Remove Unused App Access

When you grant an app access to your Google Account, that connection remains active indefinitely unless the developer revokes it or you manually remove it. If a third-party service suffers a data breach or is sold to an untrustworthy company, your connected Google data could be compromised.

Regularly cleaning up your app permissions ensures that only active, trusted services have access to your personal information.

How to Remove Third-Party Access on a Computer

The easiest way to review and revoke app permissions is by using a desktop web browser.

  1. Open your preferred web browser and navigate to your Google Account Dashboard.
  2. If you are not already logged in, enter your Google email and password.
  3. On the left-hand navigation menu, click on Security.
  4. Scroll down the page until you find the section titled Your connections to third-party apps & services.
  5. Click on See all connections.
  6. You will see a complete list of every app and service linked to your account. Click on any app that you wish to remove.
  7. The app’s details page will show exactly what data it can access. Click the Delete all connections you have with [App Name] button.
  8. A confirmation pop-up will appear. Click Confirm to permanently revoke access.

How to Remove Third-Party Access on a Smartphone

If you do not have access to a computer, you can easily manage your account connections directly from your Android smartphone or iPhone.

  1. Open the Google app (or the Gmail app) on your device.
  2. Tap your Profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the Manage your Google Account button.
  4. Swipe horizontally across the top menu (which contains options like Personal info and Data & privacy) and select the Security tab.
  5. Scroll down to Your connections to third-party apps & services and tap the section to expand it.
  6. Tap on the app you want to disconnect.
  7. Tap Delete all connections you have with [App Name].
  8. Tap Confirm to finalise the removal.

What Happens When You Remove Access?

When you revoke a third-party app’s access to your Google Account:

  • The app will immediately lose the ability to view or edit any of your Google data.
  • You will be logged out of the third-party service if you were using “Sign in with Google”.
  • Note: Revoking access does not automatically delete the data that the third-party app has already collected in the past. To delete past data, you must log in to the specific third-party service and delete your account directly through their platform.

By making this quick security audit a part of your digital routine, you can ensure your Google Account remains safe and your personal data stays private.
