One of the most frustrating features of Windows 11 is the full-screen “Get even more out of Windows” pop-up. You might turn on your computer, type in your password, and suddenly be blocked from seeing your desktop by a massive blue screen demanding that you sign up for a Microsoft 365 trial, link your Android phone, or switch your default browser back to Microsoft Edge.
This “Welcome Experience” screen is designed to nag users into adopting Microsoft’s ecosystem services. Worse, it usually reappears every time Windows installs a monthly security patch. If you use your PC for business, or simply want to boot directly to your desktop without clicking through three screens of advertisements, you must permanently block this feature in the Settings app.
How to Completely Block the ‘Get Even More Out of Windows’ Nag Screen
You must disable the post-update notification triggers in the Windows 11 System Settings.
- Click the Start button and select the gear icon to open Settings.
- In the left-hand navigation sidebar, ensure you are on the System tab.
- Scroll down the main window and click on Notifications.
- Scroll to the absolute bottom of the Notifications page.
- Click to expand the section labeled Additional settings.
- You will see three specific checkboxes. You must uncheck the following two boxes to block the full-screen nags:
- Uncheck: “Show the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and suggested”
- Uncheck: “Suggest ways to get the most out of Windows and finish setting up this device”
- (Optional but recommended): Uncheck the third box as well to stop smaller advertising pop-ups in your Start Menu (“Get tips and suggestions when I use Windows”).
The changes are saved automatically. You can close the Settings app. From now on, when Windows 11 finishes installing an update and reboots, it will bypass the full-screen advertisement completely and drop you directly onto your desktop, ready to work.
