How to Disable the “Let’s finish setting up your PC” Prompt in Windows 11

Windows 11 periodically interrupts your login experience with a full-screen, blue prompt that declares “Let’s finish setting up your PC” or “Get even more out of Windows.” This screen is essentially a persistent advertisement from Microsoft urging you to link your phone, sign up for a Microsoft 365 subscription, configure OneDrive backups, or set up Windows Hello. If you have already configured your PC exactly how you want it and are tired of dismissing this aggressive full-screen nag screen every time Windows updates, you can turn it off permanently in the settings.

Why Does This Screen Appear?

Microsoft considers this screen a “welcome experience.” It is designed to highlight new features introduced in recent updates or to encourage users to adopt Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem if they skipped those steps during the initial Windows installation. While it can be helpful for brand-new users, for experienced users who intentionally bypassed those cloud services, the recurring prompt is simply a roadblock preventing them from reaching their desktop.

How to Turn Off the Prompt in Settings

You can disable this specific notification experience through the Windows 11 Settings app.

1. Click the Start button and open the Settings app (or press Windows Key + I).
2. On the left-hand navigation menu, click on System.
3. Scroll down the right side of the screen and click on Notifications.
4. Scroll to the very bottom of the Notifications page.
5. Click the small downward-facing arrow next to the section labelled Additional settings to expand it.
6. You will see a list of checkboxes related to system suggestions. Locate the checkbox labelled Suggest ways to get the most out of Windows and finish setting up this device.
7. Uncheck this box.

Additional Setting (Optional but Recommended)

While you are on this exact same “Additional settings” menu, you will likely see two other related checkboxes:

• Show the Windows welcome experience after updates and when signed in to show what’s new and suggested.
• Get tips and suggestions when using Windows.

If you want a completely uninterrupted login experience and do not want random pop-up tips appearing in your taskbar or Action Center, it is highly recommended that you uncheck these two boxes as well.

Once these boxes are unchecked, Windows 11 will respect your preferences and will no longer hijack your screen with full-screen setup prompts upon booting up.
