How to Delay Windows 11 Updates for Up to 35 Days

While keeping your computer updated is critical for security, there are times when you might want to delay Windows 11 updates. Perhaps a recent update is known to cause blue screens, or you are in the middle of a massive project and cannot risk a sudden reboot. Fortunately, Windows 11 allows you to pause updates for up to 35 days.

How to Pause Windows 11 Updates

You can easily delay feature and security updates directly from the Settings app.

  1. Press the Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Click on Windows Update in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Look for the section labelled Pause updates.
  4. Click the dropdown menu next to it. You can choose to pause updates for 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, or 5 weeks (35 days).
  5. Select your desired duration.

Important Considerations

Once your chosen pause period expires, Windows 11 will force you to download and install all pending updates before you are allowed to pause them again. If you need to resume updates earlier than your chosen date, simply navigate back to the Windows Update settings page and click the Resume updates button at the top of the screen.
