The Accidental Minimization
In the extreme bottom-right corner of the Windows 11 screen, resting invisibly to the right of the notification bell, lies the “Show Desktop” button. Clicking this tiny, unmarked sliver of pixels instantly minimizes every single open window, flashing you straight to your wallpaper. While intended as a quick way to access desktop files, its placement is highly problematic. Users aiming for the scrollbar on a maximized web browser, or attempting to click a notification popup, frequently overshoot and accidentally click the “Show Desktop” button instead, abruptly interrupting their workflow and forcing them to manually maximize their applications again.
Removing the Corner Button
To eliminate these frustrating misclicks and completely disable the “Show Desktop” button from the far-right corner, you must adjust the taskbar behaviors within the Windows personalization settings.
Right-click on any empty space on your Taskbar and select Taskbar settings from the small pop-up menu. This will open the Personalization menu in the main Settings app. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click on the Taskbar behaviors section to expand it. Look down the list of options until you find the setting labelled Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop. Next to this text is a simple checkbox. Click this checkbox to completely remove the checkmark. The change is applied instantly. The invisible button in the bottom-right corner is now deactivated; clicking there will do absolutely nothing, preventing any future accidental minimizations.
