How to Disable Location Services (GPS Tracking) in Windows 11

The Desktop GPS

Windows 11 utilizes a built-in “Location Services” engine that attempts to triangulate your physical coordinates using nearby Wi-Fi networks, IP address data, and GPS hardware (if using a tablet or laptop). This data is constantly fed to the operating system to automatically set your time zone, provide local weather, and allow apps to serve geographically targeted advertisements. If you are using a desktop PC that never moves, or if you refuse to allow Microsoft to track the physical address of your machine, you must permanently paralyze the geographic triangulation engine.

How to Disable Location Services Globally

You can permanently sever the operating system’s ability to calculate its coordinates via the Privacy settings.

  1. Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
  2. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy & security.
  3. In the main window, scroll down to the “App permissions” section.
  4. Click on Location.
  5. Locate the master toggle switch at the absolute top of the screen labeled Location services.
  6. Toggle this master switch to the Off position.

A Geographically Blind PC

The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background location daemon. It will instantly sever all connections to the Wi-Fi triangulation APIs. Every single application on your computer—from Microsoft Edge and the Weather app to third-party software—is now completely blocked from requesting your coordinates. The PC is now permanently blind to its physical location, guaranteeing absolute geographic privacy.
