The Constant Distraction
By default, Windows 11 allows every installed application, web browser, and system utility to push notification banners directly onto your desktop. Whether you are gaming, presenting a PowerPoint, or writing code, a constant stream of sliding boxes in the bottom right corner of your screen—announcing new emails, software updates, or marketing tips from Microsoft—destroys your focus. While you can individually mute specific apps, the only way to guarantee absolute visual peace on your desktop is to completely sever the entire operating system’s notification pipeline.
How to Turn Off All Notifications Globally
You can permanently lock down the desktop notification engine via the System settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, ensure System is selected.
- In the main window, click on Notifications.
- At the absolute top of the screen, locate the master toggle switch labeled Notifications (Subtext: “Get notifications from apps and other senders”).
- Toggle this switch to the Off position.
Absolute Focus
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background rendering engine responsible for pushing UI banners to the taskbar area. Every single toggle switch for individual apps (like Mail, Edge, or Discord) below the master switch will instantly turn grey and become disabled. Your desktop environment is now completely locked down. You will never again see a sliding banner, hear an alert chime, or be interrupted by a system update prompt, ensuring your screen remains entirely dedicated to the task at hand.
