The Local Spyware
Windows 11 includes a deeply integrated tracking feature known as “Activity History.” When enabled, the operating system silently maintains a comprehensive timeline of every single document you open, every website you visit in the Edge browser, and every application you launch. Microsoft uses this data to populate the “Recommended” sections of your Start Menu and sync your activity across multiple devices. If you share your computer with family members or coworkers, this feature is a massive privacy violation, as anyone can easily see exactly what you were working on days ago. You must permanently sever this logging engine.
How to Disable Activity History
You can permanently destroy the background tracking daemon via the Privacy settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy & security.
- Under the “Windows permissions” section, click on Activity history.
- Locate the master toggle switch labeled “Store my activity history on this device”.
- Toggle this switch to the Off position.
- Immediately below it, click the Clear button next to “Clear activity history” to permanently wipe the existing hidden database from your hard drive.
Absolute Local Privacy
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background daemon responsible for logging your daily actions. The operating system will instantly suffer amnesia regarding your application usage. It will absolutely refuse to record which Word documents you edit or which folders you browse. When you click the Start Menu, it will simply launch programs natively without attempting to intelligently “resume” your past work, guaranteeing absolute privacy from anyone looking over your shoulder.
