How to Customize the Windows 11 Send To Menu Context Options

When you right-click a file in Windows 11 and select “Send to,” a small context menu appears offering quick shortcuts to move that file to a compressed zip folder, an external USB drive, or an email attachment. While this menu is incredibly useful, Microsoft does not provide a graphical settings menu to add or remove specific folder destinations.

If you constantly move files to a specific work folder or a secondary hard drive, you can easily create a custom shortcut in this menu by accessing a hidden shell directory.

How to Access the Hidden Send To Folder

  1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to instantly open the Run dialog box.
  2. In the text field, type exactly:
    shell:sendto
  3. Press Enter.

File Explorer will immediately open to a deeply buried system folder (usually located at C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo). Inside this folder, you will see shortcut files corresponding perfectly to the options that currently appear in your right-click menu.

How to Add a Custom Destination

Adding a new location to your right-click menu is as simple as placing a standard Windows shortcut into this folder.

  1. Leave the SendTo folder open, and open a second File Explorer window.
  2. Navigate to the folder or drive you want to add to your menu (for example, a folder named “Client Invoices” on your D: drive).
  3. Right-click the target folder, select Show more options (if you are on Windows 11), and click Create shortcut.
  4. Windows will generate a shortcut file. Cut this shortcut file and Paste it directly into the hidden SendTo folder you opened earlier.
  5. You can rename the shortcut file inside the SendTo folder to anything you like (e.g., “Send to Accounting”). Whatever name you type here will literally become the text displayed in the right-click menu.

You do not need to restart your computer. Right-click any file on your desktop, hover over “Send to”, and your brand-new custom destination will instantly appear in the list.

How to Remove Unwanted Options

If your menu is cluttered with options you never use—like “Fax recipient” or “Mail recipient”—simply delete the corresponding shortcut files from the SendTo folder. They will immediately vanish from your context menu.
