How to Hide the Taskbar Automatically in Windows 11

The Screen Space Vector

The Windows 11 Taskbar is a persistent user interface element that anchors the Start menu and running applications to the bottom of the screen. While highly functional, it consumes a static block of vertical pixels. For users operating on smaller laptop screens, giving up that vertical space can make working in complex spreadsheets or reading long documents feel cramped and restrictive.

How to Auto-Hide the Taskbar

You can configure the Taskbar to seamlessly slide off the screen when not in use, instantly reclaiming your lost pixel space.

1. Right-click anywhere on the empty space of your Taskbar.
2. Select Taskbar settings from the context menu.
3. In the Settings window that opens, scroll down and click on Taskbar behaviours to expand the section.
4. Locate the checkbox labelled Automatically hide the taskbar.
5. Tick the checkbox.

The Taskbar will immediately retract downwards, disappearing from view. To access it, simply move your mouse cursor to the very bottom edge of your screen, and the Taskbar will slide back up. Moving the cursor away will cause it to retract again.
