How to Remove All Animations from a PowerPoint Presentation at Once

When inheriting a legacy slide deck from a colleague, preparing a presentation for a professional executive boardroom, or converting slides into clean static PDF hand-outs, excessive animations can undermine your message. Bouncing bullet points, spinning diagrams, and slow flying text boxes distract audiences and drag out meeting times unnecessarily.

Manually clicking through dozens of individual slides to select objects and delete animation tags from the Animation Pane is tedious. Microsoft PowerPoint provides two swift techniques to suppress or permanently eradicate every animation across an entire presentation deck simultaneously.

Method 1: Suppress Animations Globally via Slide Show Settings (Non-Destructive)

If you want the slide deck to present statically without losing the underlying animation triggers should you need them in the future:

  1. Open your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  2. Click the Slide Show tab on the main ribbon.
  3. In the Set Up group, click Set Up Slide Show.
  4. In the dialogue box that appears, locate the Show options section in the centre.
  5. Check the box labelled Show without animation.
  6. Click OK.

When you enter presentation mode (F5), PowerPoint will display every slide in its fully finished, final state with zero movement or delayed builds. To re-enable animations later, simply uncheck the same box.

Method 2: Permanently Delete All Animations via a Simple Macro (VBA)

If you need to permanently strip all animation tags from the file before sharing it with clients or publishing it:

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Alt + F11 to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
  2. Click Insert in the top menu bar, then click Module.
  3. In the blank code window that opens, paste the following script:
Sub RemoveAllAnimations()
    Dim sld As Slide
    Dim i As Long
    For Each sld In ActivePresentation.Slides
        For i = sld.TimeLine.MainSequence.Count To 1 Step -1
            sld.TimeLine.MainSequence(i).Delete
        Next i
    Next sld
MsgBox "All animations successfully removed from the presentation.", vbInformation, "Complete"
End Sub
  1. Place your cursor anywhere inside the code block and press F5 (or click the green Run Sub/UserForm arrow).
  2. A confirmation prompt will notify you that all animations have been purged.
  3. Close the VBA editor window (Alt + Q) and save your clean, clutter-free presentation (Ctrl + S).
