Accidentally deleting a meeting or an important reminder from your Google Calendar can cause a moment of sheer panic. Whether you clicked the trash can icon by mistake or wiped out an entire recurring series of events, you might assume that your schedule is permanently lost. Fortunately, Google Calendar includes a safety net that makes recovering deleted items incredibly simple.
Understanding the Google Calendar Trash
Just like Google Drive or Gmail, Google Calendar has a dedicated Trash folder. When you delete an event, it is not immediately erased from Google’s servers. Instead, it is moved to the Trash, where it sits safely for exactly 30 days. After 30 days, the event is permanently and irreversibly purged from the system. Because of this window, you must act quickly if you realise you have made a mistake.
How to Recover an Event via the Web Interface
The easiest way to restore a deleted calendar event is by using a desktop web browser. It is important to note that the mobile app version of Google Calendar does not currently offer full access to the Trash folder.
- Open your preferred web browser and navigate to calendar.google.com.
- Ensure you are logged into the correct Google Account associated with the deleted event.
- In the top-right corner of the screen, click the Settings icon (the gear-shaped button).
- From the drop-down menu, click on Trash.
Selecting and Restoring Your Events
Once you are inside the Trash folder, you will see a list of every event you have deleted in the past 30 days, organised by the specific calendar they belonged to.
- Locate the event you wish to restore. You can use the checkbox on the left to select multiple events if necessary.
- Hover your mouse over the event to reveal the action buttons on the right side of the row.
- Click the Restore button (an icon depicting a curved arrow pointing backwards).
- The event will immediately disappear from the Trash and reappear in its original time slot on your main calendar view.
If you deleted a recurring event (like a weekly team meeting) and chose to delete “all events in the series,” clicking restore on one instance in the Trash will successfully bring back the entire recurring series.
