As you browse the web, Google Chrome saves a record of every website you visit and every search query you type. While this is helpful for finding pages you visited yesterday, it can quickly clutter your browser and become a privacy concern if you share a device. Fortunately, clearing this data only takes a few clicks.
How to Clear History on a Computer (Windows/Mac)
- Open Google Chrome on your desktop.
- Click the three vertical dots (⋮) in the top-right corner of the window.
- Hover your mouse over History, then select History from the sub-menu (or just press Ctrl + H / Command + Y).
- On the left side of the screen, click Clear browsing data. A new tab will open with a pop-up window.
- Look at the Time range dropdown. You can choose to delete the last hour, the last 24 hours, the last 7 days, the last 4 weeks, or All time.
- Check the box next to Browsing history. You can also choose to clear cookies and cached images here if you want to free up storage space.
- Click the blue Clear data button.
How to Clear History on a Phone (iPhone/Android)
- Open the Chrome app on your mobile device.
- Tap the three dots (located at the top-right on Android, or bottom-right on iPhone).
- Tap History.
- Tap Clear browsing data… at the top (or bottom) of the screen.
- Select your Time range and ensure “Browsing history” is checked.
- Tap Clear browsing data to delete it.
Note: If you are logged into your Google Account in Chrome with “Sync” turned on, deleting your history here will delete it across all your synced devices (like your phone and your tablet simultaneously).
