When you open Google Chrome, you might want it to automatically load your favorite news site, your email inbox, or a specific search engine. In Chrome, what most people call a “homepage” is actually referred to as the “On Startup” page. Here is how to customize exactly what loads when you launch your browser.
How to Change the Startup Page on a Computer
- Open Google Chrome on your Windows or Mac computer.
- Look at the top-right corner of the window and click the three vertical dots (⋮).
- Click on Settings from the drop-down menu.
- On the left-hand sidebar menu, click on On startup.
- You will see three options. Select the third one: Open a specific page or set of pages.
- Click Add a new page.
- Type or paste the URL of the website you want (e.g.,
www.google.com) and click Add.
Pro Tip: If you already have your favorite websites open in different tabs, you can just click the “Use current pages” button to instantly set them all to open every time you launch Chrome.
How to Change the Homepage on Android
Unlike the desktop version, the mobile version of Chrome has a dedicated “Homepage” button (the little house icon) that you can tap to instantly return to your favorite site.
- Open the Chrome app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll down to the “Advanced” section and tap Homepage.
- Ensure the toggle switch is turned On.
- Select Enter custom web address and type in the website you want the home button to link to.
Note: If you use an iPhone or iPad, Apple restricts certain browser customizations, so the Chrome app on iOS does not have a customizable Homepage button feature.
