The Obtrusive Suggestions
Google Chrome includes a built-in password manager designed to improve internet security. When you navigate to a website and click on a registration form to create a new account, Chrome will often automatically display a large pop-up bubble suggesting a highly complex, randomly generated “Strong Password” (e.g., kX9$pL2!qM5#vN8). While this is excellent for security hygiene, it is incredibly annoying if you use a dedicated, third-party password manager (like 1Password or Bitwarden) to handle your credentials. Chrome’s native pop-ups will physically block or conflict with the pop-ups from your preferred password manager, creating a messy, overlapping user interface.
Disabling the Generator
To clean up your registration forms and stop Google Chrome from automatically generating and suggesting strong passwords, you must disable the browser’s native password offering features.
Click the three vertical dots in the extreme top-right corner of the Chrome window and select Settings. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on Autofill and passwords. In the main right-hand panel, click on Google Password Manager. This will open a new tab dedicated to the manager. On the left side of this new tab, click on Settings. You will see a list of toggle switches. Look for the option labelled Offer to save passwords and click the toggle to turn it Off (the switch will turn grey). Once this is disabled, Chrome will stop volunteering its own randomly generated passwords, allowing your third-party extension to operate smoothly without interference.
